Open Water Technical Dive Courses

We view our offering of open water courses as the foundation for exceptional diving. Before divers can enter the caves, they must possess near perfect buoyancy control, trim and technique. Likewise, we offer open water courses and the fundamental courses for diving in sidemount configuration and using a DPV. Our team of dedicated instructors take teaching the fundamentals of tec diving very seriously as this is the platform you will build upon for all your future diving and training. With pool like conditions year round in the cenotes, and an abundance of breathtaking life, Mexico is a great place for your open water tec training. Learn more about each course below.

ABC Program: Advanced Buoyancy Control, Trim & Technique

At ProTec, we consider this course the prerequisite to any advanced training. Cave and technical diving demand precision control in the water.

Open Water Sidemount Diver

Imagine floating freely through the water with all the benefits and none of the encumbrances of back-mounted double tanks. Experience the freedom of sidemount diving and reap the benefits.

DPV Diving for the Open Water Environment

Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPVs), otherwise known as underwater scooters, allow divers to travel greater distances than they could if propelled by their fins alone.

Mental Considerations

Scuba divers must fully understand the risks they are undertaking and display a willingness to strive for perfection in the art of diving. We stress repetition of emergency exercises until they become second nature.

Protecting the Environment Starts With Us

As divers it is our job to minimize the impact we have on the environment we have when diving. One of the keys aspects of this is underwater control and awareness. All of our courses focus on buoyancy, trim and position to gain more stability when diving. As your stability and control goes so will your awareness, not only for the team but also the environment.

What to Expect in Class

Our open water courses focus on best practices and procedures to promote safe diving. We concentrate on helping you develop a solid platform on which you can build upon. Stability and control is the key to becoming a safer and more efficient diver. We practice drills and skills in a safe, controlled and supervised environment, both in and out of the water. For us, the training standards are, literally, bare minimums. We include a variety of additional exercises and scenarios, based on our vast and international experience diving.

We are safety enthusiasts who will make sure you finish your training equipped with the skills necessary to dive to your certification level
