Underwater Cave Survey Workshop

This workshop is designed for experienced cave divers who are interested in exploring and surveying cave systems, particularly in the Mexican cenotes. Divers will use various tools and techniques to collect survey data points and other information that will be used to create a cave stick map. We also offer the option for digital data collection with the Mnemo survey device from Ariannes Line. A solid knowledge in basic line survey is the basis for cartography. In this workshop you’ll learn all the skills you need to survey caves and utilize computer software in order to create accurate maps of the cave.

Several members of our team are extremely active explorers and experts in underwater cave survey, having surveyed hundreds of kilometers of line collectively in the cenotes. They have also participated in international cartography projects that heavily really on good underwater surveying techniques for accuracy and efficiency. From huge phreatic tunnels to small and silty offshoot passages, we are able to draw upon our real life experiences to give you the tools needed to safely survey underwater cave passages.

This cave workshop takes a minimum of 3 days to complete and is available to all experienced Cave Divers with solid fundamentals.  Should you wish to only use hand survey technique, this workshop can be completed in 2 days.

The Exploration Workshop lasts for 2 days and will give you first-hand knowledge of what it takes to explore the cenotes here in the Quintana Roo. Learn how to read the cave, look for leads and of course, put your new-found surveying skills to the test.

• Data entry and mapping software including Arianne’s Line
• Hand survey and digital survey with the MNemo survey device
• Workshop is conducted in the cenotes
