Alessandro was born and raised in Verona, Italy. He is funny and loyal, he likes to laugh and shares moments with friends.

Ale began swimming before he could talk or walk.
At just 8 months old, he was already showing other kids at the pool how not to be afraid of
the water.
Since then, he has never stopped swimming.

He spent many years involved in competitive swimming and water polo. He also enjoys beach volleyball, wakeboarding, freediving – anything that keeps him near the ocean..

He started scuba diving at the age of 15, introduced to the sport by his uncle. After completing his Open Water certification in Egypt, he gained more experience diving in the cold and murky waters of Lake Garda, the typical training ground for divers in
Northern Italy. Totola always knew where his path was leading but it took a few years between regular jobs and everyday life before he could fully pursue his calling. Diving remained a strong passion and eventually led him to follow a diving instructor on Facebook. That instructor’s explanation of the Hogarthian configuration inspired Ale to jump straight into technical diving.

“THE” decision came during a dive trip to Thailand.
It was now or never.
With his 28th birthday approaching, he returned home and committed to becoming a diving instructor. By the end of that same year, he began his professional diving career in Portugal.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought him back to Italy, but he continued diving and training throughout lockdown. That was when he discovered cave diving – Mexico would be the next destination.

During a visit to Quintana Roo, he dived the Cenotes for the first time.
One short week wasn’t enough to explore the famous Mexican cave systems, so he returned to begin his own cave journey. He searched for a dive center specialized in cave diving, aiming to grow as both a diver and instructor and to keep sharing his passion through teaching.

An Italian friend recommended ProTec, he hasn’t left since. Totola has dived in Mexico, South Africa, Greece, Bahamas, and more.

His ambitions in diving include:

  • Joining an exploration and expedition team
  • Being part of a cave search and rescue unit
  • Becoming an Instructor Trainer

Outside the underwater world, Ale is passionate about animals and sports. He shares his life with his partner Sabrina and their dog, with whom they are former members of a K-9 search and rescue group: Unit FLEX.
Recently, Amelie, an 8 month old kitten, joined the pack.

An active sportsman, he is also a skydiver, boxer, wakeboarder, CrossFit athlete, mountaineer, and skier.

He lives life fully.
He dreams of starting a dog shelter to support responsible adoptions in Mexico.

“This is the fourth time that we have used ProTec Dive Center in Tulum and they remain absolutely superb.”
