Kim Davidsson

Kim is a co-owner of ProTec Dive Centers and he is of Swedish nationality. He learned to dive in Sweden but arrived in Tulum to learn cave diving in 2003. He previously worked at Cenote Dive Center, Xibalba Dive Center and as a “freelance” and independent instructor and guide. He then left Mexico for about 2 years to pursue diving elsewhere, to work with his father and for the birth of his son.

He is married, a father of two and permanently resides in Mexico. Kim has been a part owner of ProTec since the opening of the Tulum facility in 2011.

His passion for cave diving led him to the realization that he would like to teach the art of safe cave diving. Kim has been fortunate to explore some of the most amazing caves and systems in Mexico and this is his true passion. Kim has been an active explorer in the area since 2004. Connecting the dots and to see how a cave grows is the ultimate kick; Kim is often struck by “cave fever”!

He is interested in the pedagogic aspects of teaching, always striving to become a better instructor and diver and to deliver the best possible course in the best possible way. Other interests are: CCR diving, sidemount diving, DPV diving, underwater photography, wreck diving, mine diving and technical mixed gas diving. He is also interested in the documentation of the caves and caverns and participates in an ongoing film project with good friends.

You will typically find Kim at the Tulum facility, making upgrades to the shop or tinkering with his gear, always a big cup of coffee within arm reach.

Kim has worked professionally with diving in Sweden, Norway, Thailand and Mexico and  has been cave/mine diving in Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Belize, Madagascar, Romania, Hungary, Bosnia, USA and Mexico.

He has currently (2023) logged 6000 dives with 3600 being cave dives. He has 740 hours diving closed circuit rebreathers.

Kim was elected moderator for the regional  “Virtual Line Committee” from the local unified dive organization, CREER, which is a community self regulated body dedicated to safe cave diving practices.
