Kim Davidsson

Kim is a co-owner of ProTec Dive Centers and hails from Sweden. He learned to dive in his home country but arrived in Tulum in 2002 to pursue his passion for cave diving. Over the years, Kim has worked at Cenote Dive Center, Xibalba Dive Center, and as a freelance instructor and guide.

He took a brief break from Mexico for about two years to explore diving opportunities elsewhere, work alongside his father, and welcome the birth of his son.

Now married and a father of two, Kim permanently resides in Mexico. He has been a part-owner of ProTec since the opening of the Tulum facility in 2011. His deep passion for cave diving naturally evolved into a desire to teach others the art of safe cave diving. Since 2004, Kim has actively explored some of the most spectacular caves and systems in Mexico. For him, connecting the dots and watching a cave system “grow” is the ultimate thrill—he often jokes about catching a serious case of “cave fever”.

Kim is deeply interested in the educational side of diving. He continually strives to improve as both an instructor and a diver, aiming to deliver the highest quality training in the most effective way possible. He has been teaching cave diving full time since 2009. His additional interests include CCR diving, sidemount diving, DPV diving, underwater photography, wreck diving, mine diving, and technical mixed gas diving. He’s also passionate about documenting caves and caverns and is part of an ongoing film project with close friends.

Most days, you’ll find Kim at the Tulum facility—tinkering with gear, upgrading the shop, and never far from a big cup of coffee.

Professionally, Kim has worked in Sweden, Norway, Thailand, and Mexico. He has also cave- and mine-dived in Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Belize, Madagascar, Romania, Hungary, Bosnia, the USA, and Mexico.

As of 2025, he has logged 6,572 dives, including 4,001 cave dives, and has accumulated 968 hours on closed circuit rebreathers (CCR).

Kim remains actively involved in local projects focusing on line repairs, site maintenance, safety, conservation, and relationships with landowners.
