Jaime De La Puerta Salazar

Jaime was born in Madrid, right in the center of Spain and furthest possible away from the sea. As a kid, he moved with his parents to the mountains where he developed the passion for mountain biking and skiing and sports in general. Fifteen years ago, while working as a swimming instructor and lifeguard someone asked him if he wanted to try scuba diving. He didn’t think much about it, until he got underwater. He then instantly realized that scuba diving would become the passion of his life.

He continued his diving education in Spain until the day he decided to move to Mexico, working as an Open Water Instructor. But as soon as he landed in the Yucatan Peninsula and tried Cenote cavern diving, a whole new world was introduced and he was hooked! He decided to do his Full Cave Course in January of 2011 and further continue to cave dive as much as possible, to gain experience.

Jaime’s adventurous personality and will to travel, kept him moving and diving around Central America and South-East Asia. Also living and working in different places around the globe like England, Canada, Australia and Thailand. In 2013, he finally decided to settle down in Tulum, Mexico where his passion lies. Being close to the heart of the best cave dives the planet has to offer and pursuing a career as a cave diving instructor, guide and explorer.

In his spare time, he likes to cave dive with friends on his new sidewinder, kite surf and relax on the beach. Every year pursues his goal of becoming better diver and instructor by doing at least one course for his personal diving (2020 – CCR Cave crossover, MOD2 and 3) and achieving a new instructor level (KISS Sidewinder MOD1 Instructor).

Traveling is being always another big passion of Jaime that tries to combine as much as possible with cave diving. In the last few years he has travel the world to cave dive in three different continents (Africa, America and Europe), experiencing the beauty of caves in countries like France (Lot region), Italy (Sardinia), Spain (Mallorca, “Pozo Azul” and “Cueva del Agua”), Madagascar, Florida and Mexico (where I live all year around).
